Mr. Igor Rappich and Dr. Michael Thielen look forward to welcoming you on our booth. Upon request we are happy to schedule      appointments in advance. See you at PHOTOKINA!

     Your Photobook Technology Team

Photobook Technology will exhibit at booth nr. 459

- the 600 cycle/hour automatic hot melt section gluing machine “mitablock 450” to automatically produce lay flat book blocks.

We look forward to your visit, where we can demonstrate the equipment with live production and show you the distinct advantages of this technology.

Finally, we took the decision to more aggressively and directly develop the North American market. The key to this decision was, that Ric Bloch has decided to join the PBT group. Ric was already involved with Photobook Technology in the early days. He brings into the company long time experience of print finishing technology. Ric has now formed Photobook Technology USA and took on the task to gradually develop nationwide sales and service. With the upcoming PRINT in Chicago there will be an excellent opportunity to establish direct contacts with new and existing customers. The first objective however is to provide good service to our US customers. For this, the European PBT has committed their support also with German technicians in this start up period.

- a new 600 cycle/hour hot melt section gluing machine “mitablock 450” to automatically produce lay flat book blocks.

We look forward to your visit, where we can demonstrate our equipment with live production and show you the distinct advantages of our technology. Besides you will meet Ric Bloch and our management will give you an update on new developments and future strategies.

Innovation days 2017

Hunkeler Innovation Days have developed over the years into one of the most important events focusing on digital print, print finishing and substrates.

HID is the perfect occasion for PBT to demonstrate in Hall 1:

- mitablock automatic lay flat section gluing machine

- mitabook fully automatic hardcover casing-in system

Both machines will be shown in production mode during the exhibition.

See you in Lucerne!

At the upcoming Orlando Show PBT will exhibit and demonstrate the mitabook fully automatic hard cover casing-in line.
With worldwide 80 successful mitabook installations with prime photo book producers and digital plants, this technology has set a new standard for short run hardcover manufacturing.
The show machine with its special and winning features will be equipped with barcode recognition and the new automatic adjustment for varying block thickness and spine width. PBT sales and technical personnel will be available during the whole show to give more in-depth information on mitabook as well as the other specialised equipment we offer.
We would be happy to see you in Orlando!

Lay flat binding with its panorama images finds increasingly new applications outside the traditional photo books. Advertising agencies are discovering the added possibilities this attractive binding method offers. Company profiles, descriptions of building projects and interior design brochures are increasingly produced in lay flat. With this trend PBT received recently additional orders for mitabook casing-in lines to produce this type of products. The mitabook, does not require a wing and therefore there is no need for a book block splitter to find the center of the book. This book splitter adds to the danger of slicing the glued double page and marking the printed image. All these recently sold machines were equipped with the additional mitaform joint forming attachment.

Photobook Technology PBT has exhibited together with Müller Martini Corporation NA the mitabook casing in line and demonstrated the new unique feature of casing in various thickness book blocks of same trim size into cases with variable spine inlay. The machine will automatically adapt to the new book dimension without interrupting production.

Polar-Mohr and PBT have reached an agreement, whereby PBT will include the heavy-duty BC 330 single knife three-way-cutter in their sales portfolio under the brand name of “mitatrim”. By adding the mitatrim to their product range, PBT is closing the production cycles of short run hard-cover production by trimming either perfect bound or lay-flat book blocks and casing them in on the mitabook with mitacase-produced book blocks.

Incorporating another NEW option, the mitabook is capable to produce soft- or hardcover books with “free spine”. The computer-controlled hot melt spray system gives the possibility to apply adhesive anywhere required. With this feature adhesive is applied to full surface gluing the front cover and to only partially adhere the back cover. As a condition to produce this special product, the cover material should be around 300 g/m2 and precisely creased.

1 0001 bild fu r newslettevrWe are pleased to inform you today that as per January of this year DR. MICHAEL THIELEN (43) has joined PBT. Michael Thielen will take over as Managing Director of PBT in Mendrisio and also oversee the PBT Service Organisation in Leipzig. With a master in mechanical engineering and a Doctorate from the University Print and Media Technology in Chemnitz, Michael Thielen brings ideal credentials to take over this position from Kurt Richter and bring new initiatives into the company. Kurt Richter, who has no intention to retire, will continue as usual to be active in international sales and marketing. We wish Michael Thielen success and satisfaction with this new important assignment.

With now almost 70 successful installations worldwide some innovative features are now available. Variable book thickness. It is common in the photo book business that with same format books the page count varies and so does the spine inlay of the case. Batching was required before casing-in. With the new options “measurement of block thickness” and “measurement of width of spine inlay” in the machine, same size books with different thickness can be cased in without production interruption. Enlarged size range after having already increased max. block thickness from 20 to 40 mm, the mitabook can now handle a max. book size of back-to-front 360 mm (14”) and head-to-tail 400 mm (15 ¾ “). mitaform – fold forming station. In order to produce a more pronounced fold area, or a differently shaped joint, regardless of position, we can offer now the mitaform joint forming machine to be connected at the exit of the mitabook. Heated and exchangeable forming irons precisely reshape the fold of the finished book.
